So what are the issues and problems in embedding technology in delivery and assessment of apprenticeships?

Technology often provides opportunities to enhance, enrich and expand the processes used to deliver content and assess apprenticeships.

Apprenticeships is a growth area undergoing massive reform, with a government target of three million starts by 2020.

We can see that this does mean those who support apprenticeships may want to start reflecting on how technology could be used to support this growth.

How is technology been used to support apprentices as they move through their apprenticeship programme?

What are the issues if we are to deliver an apprenticeship programme using a blended or even totally digital approach?

What are the problems or issues with using digital assessment methods? What are the potential solutions?

What would truly digital apprenticeships look like?

Apprenticeships is a growth area undergoing massive reform, with a government target of three million starts by 2020 and the implementation of the post-16 skills plan. The employer levy funding beginning in April 2017 is estimated at £2.5 bn, a billion pounds larger than now. Increasing and more effective use of technology will be crucial to achieving government targets whilst maintaining high quality.

We think it’s time we had fully digital apprenticeships – to meet the needs of employers and apprentices in the 21st century.

This blog will be used to synthesise the discussion and debate around the digital apprenticeships co-design challenge.

It will be updated with regular postings about the subject and issues. It will also have blog posts from Jisc staff and other experts in this field, discussing the issues and challenges that we could face in this area.

This is an issue that impacts on training providers, colleges and universities, no matter what your background, discipline or role, you will be affected. Share your hopes and your fears, tell us what you think might happen, but also what you think should and could happen.
